Students Encouraged to Check Their Fall 2007 Course Schedules Via ZipLine
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Students are encouraged to check their fall 2007 schedules via ZipLine.

• Log into ZipLine with their UANet ID and password
• Click on the “Students” tab, select “Academics” from the list and then select “View My Class Schedule.”
• Information regarding course meeting times, days and room location is given in real-time; in other words, all information is up to date as it is retrieved.

The Office of the University Registrar sends an e-mail to the instructor of record and all enrolled students’ UA Net e-mail address when there is a classroom change made in the course(s) they are enrolled. It is recommended that instructors and students check their UANet e-mail often for any important messages from the University as this will be the official means of notification used by the Office of the University Registrar.

Students may access a computer from many locations on campus including:

• Simmons Hall – Lobby
• Student Union – Laptop Check Out and Kiosks
• Residence Halls – Computer Labs
• Carroll Hall – Adult Focus Office, Room 55
• Bierce Library – Computer Labs and Laptop Check Out
• The Polsky Building – Room 192
• Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences building – Computer Lab Room 103B and Kiosks in Atrium
• College of Business Administration Building – Room 102

For students who do not have access to a computer, a listing of courses with classroom assignments will be available at the Student Union Information Desk and the Bierce Library Circulation Desk.

Questions regarding your course schedule may be directed to the Office of the University Registrar at Registration@uakron.edu or 330-972-8300 (choose option #4 for Registration).

Parking task force posts draft recommendations on Web
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The preliminary recommendations from the Parking Study Task Force have been posted on the Web for students and others to review. The committee was formed in January to study parking on campus and issue recommendations.

Among other recommendations, the group suggests that a new parking deck should be built, resident students should park overnight in outlying lots and decks, and a shuttle system should be developed to run the periphery of campus.

There is a page on the site for you to submit your improvements to the recommendations. Task force members ask that you provide your feedback by Friday, Aug. 31.

It’s time to get ROWDY Akron students! Our fall sports athletes have trained hard all summer and are once again ready to take the field… and the AK-ROWDIES are ready to cheer them on to victory. For those that aren’t familiar with the ROWDIES, we are a student army of diehard Akron Zips fans that show up to every game to support our student athletes. The ROWDIES enjoy a number of perks such as free admission at home events, special seating, are eligible for a number of promotional giveaways, and most of all, get the opportunity to make a difference in the game.

The AK-ROWDIES will have their first sign-up session in the UA bookstore (Student Union) on Saturday, August 25 from 10am - 3pm. Your next opportunity to sign up will be at Akron Traditions in EJ Thomas Hall on Sunday 26, from 2 - 4 pm. The ROWDIES will also have a sign-up table available in the student union from Monday, August 27 – Friday, August 31, from 10am – 2 pm.

Everyone (whether you are a new or returning AK-ROWDY), must come to registration with their student I.D. number, e-mail address, and $10. All ROWDIES will receive their t-shirt immediately upon signing up.

All ROWDIES are encouraged to attend the Men’s Soccer game against Cleveland State on Sunday, August 25 at 5:00 pm. Attending two Men’s Soccer games this year (wearing your AK-ROWDIES shirt) will make you a member of our new “Goal Patrol”. These ROWDIES will be granted special seating behind the goals and free pizza at every game thereafter, along with a free “Goal Patrol” t-shirt. We hope to see you there! Goooooo Zips!

Student Union improves service to those who borrow laptops Aug. 27 - Dec. 31
7:00 am - 11:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The Student Union Information Center will be providing a new service as of 08-27-2007. The service will consist of individuals who are interested in checking out a laptop being placed on a waiting list when we are currently out of laptops. You will fill out your information on the list and receive a number.

The Waiting List will consist of 20 spots and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis. When laptops become available, two announcements will be made. The second will be a reminder 10 minutes after the first announcement to the people on the waiting list to come receive their laptop. To receive your laptop you must return the number that was given to you when you were put on the list. After 20 minutes of the first announcement the waiting list expires and you lose your space on the list.

You must return the number if you are put on the list to the Information Center. Once we have a significant amount of laptops back we can return to the regular laptop checkout procedure.

If you have any further questions you can stop up at the Information Center located in the Student Union second floor. Or you may contact us at 330-972-4636.

Thank you,

Yoko Ono's Cut Piece Performance by UA Student Aug. 29
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
In conjunction with the YOKO ONO IMAGINE PEACE Featuring John & Yoko’s Year of Peace exhibition at the Emily Davis Gallery of Folk Hall, UA Master of Arts Administration student and assistant curator John Noga, will perform Yoko Ono’s "Cut Piece" at 7 pm, Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High Street, in Akron. (The Akron-Summit County Public Library is the site of the performance and is not the sponsor.) The performance of "Cut Piece" is free and open to the public.

Yoko Ono’s Cut Piece (1964), was first performed by the artist herself in Kyoto, Japan, in 1964. Ono, who has since performed the piece a number of times, discussed the work as an attempt to move beyond the artist’s ego, allowing the audience to take – literally, in this case - what it wanted from the work of art. Kevin Concannon, UA associate professor and exhibition curator for YOKO ONO IMAGINE PEACE at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art, will offer a brief introduction for the performance in Akron.

In Cut Piece, the performance score (instructions) calls for the performer to sit on the stage wearing his or her best suit of clothing with a pair of scissors placed in front of them. Members of the audience may then approach the stage one at a time to cut a piece of clothing that they may take with them. The performance ends at the performer’s discretion.

In 2003, Ono performed the work personally for the last time. She did it, she said, for peace, and against ageism, racism and sexism.

For Diversity Week in the fall, Zips Programming Network (ZPN) will be sponsoring a program that will take place near Starbucks in the Student Union. It is an informational session, designed to educate our campus about diverse belief systems (i.e. various religious/spiritual ideas, or a lack thereof) while teaching the importance of respecting everyone's ideas. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

If you would like to be involved in the event by setting up a table, and providing information about your beliefs, please contact us today. We have room for three or four more individuals or pairs for this event.
