Campus bookstore launches Monday Morning Money-Back Discounts
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
A new program at the Barnes & Noble campus bookstore offers discounts on school spirit clothing whenever the UA football team wins a home game.

Called the Monday Morning Money-Back Program, any time our football team wins a home game, our bookstore will offer a discount equal to the point spread of the game on the following Monday. This discount (up to 25%) applies to all school logo and emblematic clothing sold in the bookstore including: T-shirts, hoodies, and sweats. For example, if our team wins with a final score of 26 to 14, that Monday the bookstore will offer a 12% discount (26 –14 = 12).

"As long as the team wins at home, the bookstore will offer the discount on the following Monday," says Melissa Schmitt, Director of Marketing. "The Monday Morning Money-Back Program helps keep the enthusiasm of the victory going strong and lets everyone share in the win."

Every Monday following a home win, the bookstore will display the game's final score and that day's percentage discount. The discount will apply only on the first Monday following the win and cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions.

For more information on the Monday Morning Money-Back Program, call or visit the campus bookstore.

The Actor's Nightmare Presented by The University of Akron Theatre Guild Sept. 21 - Sept. 22

The University of Akron Theatre Guild Presents Christopher Durang’s The Actor’s Nightmare

Akron OH – The University of Akron Theatre Guild presents The Actor’s Nightmare, by Christopher Durang, Sept. 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Donald S. Varian Studio in Guzzetta Hall, 157 University Ave., on campus.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for UA students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. For reservations please call 330-972-7895. Visit the Web site for more information.

Directed by UA student Toni Clair, a junior majoring in Theatre Arts and French, The Actor’s Nightmare is Christopher Durang’s hilariously distressing treatment of every actor’s worst fear: being unprepared in front of an audience. George Spelvin, an accountant, wanders onto an empty stage and finds himself thrust into a play that seems to careen through a brief history of theatrical styles. As he wanders through plays that resemble Noel Coward’s Private Lives, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, a combination of a few Samuel Beckett plays, and Sir Thomas More’s A Man for All Seasons, George struggles to find lines he vaguely remembers, but which immediately make no sense..

Clair said she chose The Actor’s Nightmare because she felt it would be particularly amusing to a college theatre audience. The actor’s nightmare is not unlike the student’s nightmare of showing up for a test without any knowledge of the subject. Clair adds, “With the number of plays that Durang satirizes, as well as his hidden conceptions about religion, politics, and life in general, I find this play to be educational and simply fun to work on.”.

The Office of Greek Life Programs supports National Hazing Prevention Week September 24th-29th 2007

The Office of Greek Life Programs along with the Department of Student Life welcomes you to join them in the fight against hazing. Stop by the Student Union and check out the many different informational signs that will be posted around the building.

Also in support of the ongoing attempt to end hazing on college campuses and particularly within Greek organizations, 21 international fraternities and sororities have joined forces in a coalition to establish the Greek Anti-Hazing Hotline. The toll-free number is 1-888-NOT-HAZE (1-888-668-4293).
The line is available to those who think they, or students they know, have been or may become victims of hazing. Callers may remain anonymous or provide personal information so their concerns can be responded to directly.
The Anti-Hazing Hotline connects to a dedicated voice mailbox at the Cincinnati law firm of Manley Burke, the publisher of Fraternal Law, a well-known law journal that chronicles legal issues involving collegiate Greek organizations and higher education.

The English Language Institute (ELI), UA's English program for international students, invites UA students to participate in its Conversation Partners Program. Through this program, the ELI pairs an international student who is learning English in our program with an American partner for one hour of informal conversation per week. ELI students come from all over the world and bring with them a wide variety of educational, political, cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. This program is a wonderful opportunity to learn about another country and culture AND to make an international student feel welcome here in Akron.

Sign-up for the Spring 2007 Conversation Partners Program begins now in the ELI Office in Olin Hall 302. The one-hour weekly meetings will run from the week of October 1 through November 16. Call (330) 972-7544 for more information.
