On Monday, September 29, NBC's Katie Couric will deliver a one-hour lecture at E. J. Thomas Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Because a large attendance is expected, including many visitors to campus, the following parking locations will be reserved from early morning until the event begins at 1:00 p.m.:

*Lot 28 (the E. J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall deck)
*Lot 27 (the surface lot on Hill Street, directly across from E. J. Thomas Hall)
*Lot 26, first level (the bottom level of the North Campus Parking Deck on Buchtel Avenue)

The time of the event--which was dictated by Ms. Couric's schedule-- will create some inconvenience in parking for our students and employees, with patrons starting to arrive at noon, when the demand for parking and traffic volume on Buchtel Avenue are high.

Students, faculty and staff should be able to find alternative parking at the following east campus locations:

*Lot 1 (East Campus Parking Deck on Spicer Street between Buchtel Avenue and Carroll Street)
*Lots 8, 9 and 10 (surface parking near the Ocasek Natatorium on Spicer, Carroll and Vine streets)

Parking maps and information are available online at http://www.uakron.edu/parking/.

For ticket information, please contact the E.J. Thomas Hall Ticket Office at (330) 972-7570.

Anyone who loves comedy will welcome the opportunity to giggle and guffaw when one of America's foremost comediennes and actresses, Lily Tomlin, opens the 2003-2004 season at The University of Akron's E. J. Thomas Hall on Friday, October 3, at 8:00 p.m.

Tomlin is fondly remembered for her characterizations of Ernestine, the telephone operator, and Edith Ann, the precocious six year-old, and countless performances on stage and screen. A funny thing happened on her trek to stardom--Tomlin was a pre-med student before choosing acting as her career. She made her television debut on "The Gary Moore Show" in 1966, and in 1969 rose to national prominence as a cast member of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In." In addition to her impressive film career, she's co-written and starred in six comedy specials, has won a Grammy Award, three Emmys, two Tony Awards, two Peabody Awards and a Writer's Guild Award.

Ticket prices for "An Evening with Lily Tomlin" are $45, $40 and $30 and are available through the E.J. Thomas Hall Ticket Office at (330) 972-7570. Tickets can also be purchased at all Ticketmaster Centers or via Charge-By-Phone at (330) 945-9400 in Akron or (216) 241-5555 in Cleveland or online at http://www.ticketmaster.com.
