Due to the planned installation of an electrical duct bank for high voltage power, Carroll Street will be closed between Wolf Ledges Parkway and Buckeye Street from Friday, October 3 to Friday, October 10.

Shakespeare Festival Oct. 3 - Oct. 4

This year's Wayne College Shakespeare Festival will be held Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, from 7:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.

The Shenandoah Shakespeare Express will present, "Two Gentlemen of Verona," on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and "King Henry IV Part I" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Professor Debra Johanyak will sign her book, "Shakespeare's World," before the performances.

Student tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door, and guests pay $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets may be purchased from the Wayne College Bookstore at (330) 972-8920 or Buehler's in Orrville.

Alpha Delta Pi Sorority will be conducting its fall philanthropy event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Akron Tuesday, October 7, through Wednesday, October 8. All campus organizations and students are invited to participate in this two-day game of "tag" that will allow other students, faculty and staff on campus to become familiar with the women of Alpha Delta Pi.

Teams of a maximum of seven members will have an opportunity to gain points by signing Alpha Delta Pi members' shirts during the two-day event. Each Alpha Delta Pi member will be wearing a shirt that will have the name of the event and/or their letters on it. Each member will be worth a specified number of points. The team and individuals with the most points at the end of the two-day event will be eligible to receive a gift basket full of gift certificates, novelty items and/or Greek merchandise (if applicable).

The entry fee is a nominal $20 per team and all proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House. Registration will end on Sunday, October 5.

The English Language Institute (ELI) is offering a workshop for international graduate students who plan to take the Test of Spoken English this semester. (An international teaching assistant must pass the Test of Spoken English prior to assuming teaching duties.)

Students should contact the ELI to pre-register at (330) 972-7544, ua-eli@uakron.edu or at the ELI office in Olin Hall, Room 302. Registration is limited to 20 students, and students are enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Workshop participants will survey the format of the test, examine sample questions and the scoring criteria, take a practice test and record their answers on tape, and learn test-taking strategies to improve their performance. Practice tests will not be scored.

The Journey of Hope Oct. 7

This program is centered around victim related questions, healing and reconciliation, and examining the death penalty's role in the criminal justice system. Kristi Smith, a murder victim's family member, and Juan Melendez, an inmate who became the 24th person exonerated and released from Florida's death row, will be among the speakers. This program, which will include accounts from family members of murder victims and death row inmates, will be both challenging and enlightening.

At 5:30 p.m. Dr. Levine, Professor Carro, and Professor Koosed will also be discussing opportunities for working in the public interest field and also the steps to obtaining a public interest fellowship. This will be especially helpful to first year law students looking to gain valuable work experience. This event is open to all.

The Counseling, Testing and Career Center will sponsor free 10 minute depression screenings for National Depression Screening Day. A counselor will be available to conduct screenings in Spanish from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Informational brochures and a videotape about depression will be available at this site, in addition to opportunities to speak with staff members from the Counseling Center about mental health issues. (For other National Depression Screening Day sites, call 1-800-520-6373.)

The Counseling, Testing and Career Center offers a full range of counseling services to current students. Services include personal, career and educational counseling, crisis intervention, testing for learning disorders, educational workshops, consultation and group counseling.

The annual Choreographers' Workshop Dance Program will be held October 9-11 in Daum Theatre, Kolbe Hall. This annual dance concert is choreographed, danced and produced by dance program students.

Some activities may be limited due to classes, varsity athletics, or special events.
