Opportunity to help ASG allocate EAF dollars to Student Organizations

spacer image
spacer image
Currently ASG is looking for undergraduate students to serve on the Executive Budget Committee (EBC). EBC is the committee that controls the Extracurricular Activities Fund (EAF) budget for The University of Akron, and distributes it accordingly to the various student organizations on campus. Currently, EBC meets one hour per week to go over travel requests and distribute travel money. Also, in the spring semester, the committee will go over the annual EAF requests for the upcoming school year and decide as a committee how to allocate the money.

To serve on the committee, potential members must be available this semester to meet at 4 p.m. on Thursdays for about an hour. Travel requests will be processed, and members will learn the EAF allocation rules and regulations. In the spring, members must be able to meet 2-3 hours per week to go over and process the annual budget requests.

If you are interested, or have any questions about joining EBC, please contact either Katie Christopher at kmc54@uakron.edu, or Kristen Bowman at kmb70@uakron.edu. Deadline is Friday, November 9th at 5:00 p.m. for interested members.

Noted internationally for his photographs portraying contemporary consumer culture, photographer Brian Ulrich will present "Copia" as part of the Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Photography Series at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art on Monday, Nov. 5, at 6 pm in Folk Hall (150 E. Exchange St., Akron). The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Ulrich, 36, a native of Northport, NY, and a UA graduate, has photographs in major museum collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography. His work examines the excesses and peculiarities of American consumer culture.

His first monograph, Copia was published in 2006 by Aperture as part of the MP3: Midwest Photographers Project. The term "copia" means plentiful supply and is associated with abundance. The ongoing Copia series of large-scale photographs offers a penetrating look at life in an affluent, consumer-dominated culture.

Ulrich received his BFA in photography from The University of Akron’s Myers School of Art and earned his MFA in photography at Columbia College Chicago. In 2007 Ulrich was named one of the 30 Emerging Photographers by Photo District News magazine.

Todo el mundo será bienvenido a... LA TERTULIA!

Come to Bierce Library 274a Wednesday, November 7th and join us for informal conversation in Spanish. In addition to the stimulating conversation, we will be decorating boxes—an early gift for Navidad or a hostess gift for Thanksgiving, perhaps?

The chatting will begin at 6 pm and last until 8 pm. All materials will be provided and there is no charge for the event. The gathering is open to everyone in the campus community, beginners to native speakers.

You are welcome to buy food in the café on the ground floor of the library and bring it with you.

NOS VEMOS!

As the holiday season quickly approaches, it is time to remember what this holiday is all about. Each and every one of us has memories from when we were children, and these are what make this holiday so dear. However, for some kids and families, Christmas time is a time of pain and hardships. Being in the hospital during the Christmas season can be tough on not only the children, but their families as well. This is why the Zips Programming Network at the University of Akron is lending their hand to help the Akron Children’s Hospital in collecting toys to give to patients during the holiday season.

To help out, new, unwrapped toys can be donated starting November 16 to either the ZPN office or there will be a table set up in the Union market on Mondays and Fridays throughout the rest of the semester.

For more information contact Jeremy Prokop at either zpncommunity@uakron.edu or (330)972-7014.
