Contractors will begin repairs to the Exchange Street deck starting Wednesday, Oct. 10. This means that sections of the deck will be closed periodically over the remainder of the fall semester. It is not known precisely what sections will be closed on any given day.
Important: Resident students who park their cars overnight are urged to park elsewhere on campus until spring semester. Sections will be cordoned off first thing in the morning. If your car is in an area to be cordoned off, it could be towed at your expense. To help prevent this from happening, UA's Parking Services is posting fliers in residence halls, putting notices on cars parked in the deck and putting up signs.
Experts have recommended that the University make these repairs before winter arrives. The problem was discovered in late August, and it has taken a few weeks to plan the repairs, select a contractor and arrange for funding.
The contractor has been instructed to minimize the number of spaces that are closed off at any given time. In some cases, sections will be closed so that shoring can be put in place as a precaution.
The repairs are expected to continue through the end of the fall semester. Students and employees are urged to use the following alternative parking areas: Lots 7, 20, 32, 35 or 54. Show me these lots on a map.
