Spring 2008 Tuition Due Date Reminder
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The Office of Student Accounts/Bursar understands the challenges that students face when it comes to paying for college. The department, located on the first floor of Simmons Hall, is happy to explain to you the available payment options, including the installment-payment plan. Stop by or call us at (330) 972-5100. We are also accessible on the Web at http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/index.php.

We want to make you aware of some important dates for the spring term.

Tuition and fee payment is due on December 7 for students who enrolled before November 9. You can pay in installments over the semester by signing up for our installment payment plan. Information on the plan is available at http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/paymentoptions.php#ipp. Remember it is now possible to sign up for the payment plan online. If you have made schedule changes since your original enrollment date; it is possible that you have more than one due date. Please review your account on Zipline and know when your tuition and fees are due.

Information on financial aid is available online, or you can call (330) 972-7032 or stop by the Office of Student Financial Aid in Simmons Hall.

Some additional points:

• Anticipated financial aid is considered as payment, and if it covers the balance due, the student will not incur any penalties.

• Balances due and not paid by the December 7 date will be assessed a $50 late fee. Students who miss the due date and have not signed up for the installment plan run the risk of having their enrollment canceled for the spring term. The cancellation enables the University to open up seats in classes that are full.

• Students who enroll but later decide not to attend are strongly encouraged to drop their classes to ensure that fees are properly credited. Please note: Nonpayment does not guarantee the cancellation of your enrollment. (Learn how to drop classes at http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/AddDrop.php. The University’s refund policy is online at http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/refundpolicy.php).

• Enrollment will be canceled on January 21 for all undergraduate students if the account has not been paid by the published due date. Enrollment after November 9 will have a due date of January 9th, and all enrollment after January 9 is due on the date of registration.

• Students intending to reside on campus, who fail to make the payment due date, will have their housing contracts canceled and rooms forfeited if their classes are canceled. Should these students reinstate their housing contract after making payment arrangements, they may be moved to the wait list for housing and assigned when space becomes available.

• Graduate students, law students, first-time international students and certain workshops are excluded from the above criteria. Please contact your college for more specific information.

If you have any questions, please call us at (330) 972-5100 or visit Simmons Hall.

A Celebration Of Changes In The Craft World-Panel Discussion Dec. 1
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Students, artists, and scholars will meet on Saturday, December 1, 2007, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Donfred H. Gardner Theater in the Student Union to discuss changes in the craft world. The symposium, moderated by Mary Schiller Myers School of Art professor and ceramics coordinator Donna Webb, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will follow.

The panel discussion is the final forum in conjunction with the ceramics exhibition at UA’s Emily Davis Gallery, "All the Difference – Works in Clay". Webb anticipates that “The panel discussion should stimulate a thoughtful reconsideration of the role making and using objects has played throughout history, with repercussions not only for our perception of the art world, but of what is important in our day-to-day lives.”

The panelists will approach the subject from different perspectives. Graham McLaren is a scholar from England who is the head of the department of historical and critical studies in the Bath School of Art and Design. His current scholarship is The Culture of Ceramics: Europe and America from 1660 (Manchester University Press). Bruce Metcalf, an artist, was a contributing editor at Metalsmith Magazine for a decade and is co-author with Janet Kopolos of Twentieth Century American Studio Crafts (University of North Carolina Press). Dorothy Shinn has a MFA in painting and an MA in art history from Kent State University and is the art and architecture critic for the Akron Beacon Journal.

The exhibition "All the Difference-Works in Clay " in Folk Hall features more than 400 works and closes on Saturday, December 1. The Emily Davis Gallery, open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesdays and Thursdays until 9 p.m., is at 150 E. Exchange St., Akron.

If you haven't already planned on coming over, you should be doing that right now. Your semester just won't be complete without coming to this extravaganza of vocal sweetness. Trust me.

To lead off this event will also be the University Men's Choir in the debute performance, so remember to get there early to see this historical event as well!!

Singer Jennifer Daniels Dec. 4

spacer image

Jennifer Daniels performs with a power that rivals Ani DiFranco, and combines it with angelic melodies and lyrical rhythms reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan. Her intense, raw passion captivates the audience while her humorous banter between songs endears them. As Paste Magazine writes, “It is a rare gift that someone can express such depth and power in lyrics, and it is even more rare that the lyrical gift is accompanied by such an amazing musical talent.” She was recently recognized in the Atlanta Songwriting Contest and received Best Songwriter/Acoustic honors from the Atlanta Music Awards. As Performing Songwriter says, “Jennifer flirts with pop, rock, or anything else that comes into her musical path. The result is pretty damn great!”

Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity wishes to make you aware of a public ritual that we will be holding on campus for the first time. Since our chartering on February 3, 2007, we have been working hard to make the fraternal experience for our men a ritual and values based experience.

That experience will be strengthened at 8pm on December 6, 2007, when will be holding the first ever Black Lantern Processional on The University of Akron campus. The processional is a public ritual that Alpha Sigma Phi chapters across the nation share with their fellow Greeks and university students. This ritual is held to commemorate our national fraternity founding in 1845 and to honor all of our fellow brothers who have passed on. Those watching are asked to respect the solemnity of the ceremony.

We are excited to share our ritual with the entire university community and welcome you to join us! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
