"Cats" Tickets Only $15 for Students Oct. 31 - Nov. 2

A special reduced rate of $15 is being offered to University of Akron students for tickets to the Broadway musical "Cats."

This rate applies to all five performances as follows:

Friday, October 31, at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 2, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

These $15 tickets can be purchased only at the E. J. Thomas Hall Ticket Office two hours before show time. The transaction must be cash only, with one discount per UA student ID. Tickets are subject to availability. This offer is not good on previously purchased tickets or in combination with any other offer.

The University of Akron Ticket Office is located on campus at University and Hill streets.

Spring Break Fear Factor Challenge Nov. 3

The Athletic Department is currently looking for ideas for the Fear Factor Spring Break Challenge to be held in January. Students are encouraged to contact the Athletic Department with suggestions about what they would be willing to do to win a spring break trip.

The challenge will be held at the James A. Rhodes Arena Wednesday, January 14, during halftime of the Zips VS. Bowling Green basketball game.

Students are encouraged to submit their ideas for the challenge and for a chance to compete for the spring break trip.

Submissions will be accepted throughout the month of November.

The Office of Student Development, in collaboration with the College of Business Administration Building Bridges program, is offering workshops for anyone interested in the budgeting process for registered student organizations.

The workshops will be held on the third floor of Ayer Hall, Trustees Room II, at the following times:

*Tuesday, November 4, from 1:00-2:15 p.m.
*Wednesday, November 5, from 5:00-6:15 p.m.
*Thursday, November 6, from 1:00-2:15 p.m.

All workshops will cover the process of accessing student organization funds, budget planning for student organizations and a brief overview of the annual student organization funding request process. Students, faculty and staff involved in student organizations now or in the future are encouraged to participate.

This workshop is titled, "What To Do With A Degree In English" and it will give declared majors, students working on minors, or individuals contemplating an English degree an opportunity to talk with alumni who are currently using their English skills successfully in existing careers.

The annual Ohio Law Caravan will be coming to the campus on Tuesday, November 4, from 3:00-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

The Ohio Law Caravan is an organization of the Ohio Law Schools Admissions Offices and is visiting the campus to promote legal education and to give students a forum to learn about specific law school opportunities, registration and financial assistance. Interested students will be given the opportunity to network with over 20 law school representatives in Ohio and other regions of the United States. The event is free and open to all University of Akron students.

These sessions are designed to inform students about majors, minors, transient credit, calculating grade point averages, achieving credit by exam and more.

The Student Union Movie Theatre will also be showing "S.W.A.T." beginning Friday, November 7, through Sunday, November 9.

All shows start at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $3 for students and $4 for faculty, staff and the general public. Free popcorn will be available on Wednesday and free Papa John's pizza on Thursday with paid admission.

The Department of Economics will be hosting the Midwest Conference on Student Learning in Economics: Innovation, Assessment and Classroom Research on Friday, November 7, in the Student Union.

Paul Romer, Professor of Economics in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution, will be presenting "Using Technology So Students Learn More (and Professors Work Less)" at 8:50 a.m.

William Becker, Professor of Economics at Indiana University and editor of The Journal of Economic Education, will be speaking on the topic, "Doing Classroom Research and Getting it Published" in the Student Union Theatre from 2:15-3:40 p.m. This will also be a part of the Institute for Teaching and Learning Distinguished Visiting Scholar Seminar Series.

This conference was organized under the leadership of Steven Myers, Ph.D., University of Akron Associate Professor of Economics and is sponsored by the Committee on Economic Education of the American Economic Association, The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation Inc. and the National Council on Economic Education, Aplia Inc., as well as the Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Barker Center for Economic Education.

More than 100 participants from 11 states are already registered for the conference.

The Graduate Programs in Business Office will hold an Information Session to discuss admission and program requirements for all graduate programs Friday, November 7, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the College of Business Administation, Room 121.

The College of Business Administration offers the Master of Business Administration, the International Executive Master of Business Administration, the Master of Taxation, the Master of Science in Management, the Master of Science in Accountancy, joint programs with the School of Law and Graduate Certificate programs.

Areas of specialization include accounting, finance, international business, management, strategic marketing, e-business, entrepreneurship, health services administration, international finance, global sales management, management of technology and innovation (polymer emphasis), supply chain management, human resource management, information systems management and accounting information systems.

The International Executive Master of Business Administration allows students to complete the MBA in less than one year no matter what undergraduate degree they hold. It is a full-time day program with extensive travel to business and corporate centers in the United States and abroad. A study abroad component is also included in the program. The $40,000 tuition covers tuition, fees, books and program-related travel.

Applicants with a non-business undergraduate degree may apply to any graduate programs.

Advisors and faculty members will be available to meet with potential students to discuss admission and programs. Light refreshments will be served. Students are encouraged to invite friends or family members. RSVPs are requested but not required.
