When is it safe to return to class following the flu?
Though we have not seen an alarming number of flu cases among our employees, we have had some questions from students or their parents about returning to campus for classes. We urge you to be smart and considerate of your fellow students. If you have ongoing symptoms of the flu—cough, sore throat, fever, body aches, general weakness—please do not bring those back to campus. You are ready to come back when your fever has been gone for at least 24 hours AFTER you stopped taking fever-reducing medication.

Please keep in mind that if you come to Student Health Services with these symptoms, we will likely recommend that you return home. So be smart, and protect others.

Student Health Services has exhausted its supply of flu vaccine. If you have not been vaccinated, the department recommends you check with your doctor or pharmacist.

If you are not able to join us on the first day of spring semester, due to illness, please let Provost Mike Sherman know and he will pass the word to the appropriate faculty. E-mail him at and make sure to include your full name and student ID number.

We welcome you back for the spring semester, but not if you bring the flu with you.

Answers to your questions about the flu.
