Stephen Sondheim and Frank Rich coming to Thomas Hall April 20

Award-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim and New York Times columnist and former chief theatre critic Frank Rich will share the stage for an evening of conversation at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on Monday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m.

Part of the UA Forum Series, their unscripted conversation will provide theatre fans with a rare opportunity to hear reminiscences, from the perspective of the artist himself, as well as from one of his greatest proponents, about the collaborations and inspirations that fueled Sondheim’s successful career. Sondheim has composed music, lyrics or both, for innumerable shows, including “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Sweeney Todd,” “West Side Story” and “Gypsy.”

In its 14th year, The University of Akron Forum Series brings major speakers to the University and the Northeast Ohio community. The series is supported by the Office of the President and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost. The lecture also is sponsored by the Mary Schiller Myers Lecture Series. Established in 1979 by arts patron Mary Schiller Myers and her husband, Louis, the Myers Lecture Series brings nationally recognized leaders in the arts and communication to campus for public lectures, performances, master classes and residencies.
