On April 26, ten graduating seniors in the College of Engineering and Polymer Science were honored at the annual Engineering Trajectory Awards ceremony held in the Jean Hower Tabor Student Union. Each award winner received $10,000 directly applied to pay back federal student loan debt, and to date, $1.2 million has been given to students since the award’s establishment in 2012.

While at The University of Akron, the award winners excelled in their academic studies and work experiences, in addition to accepting personal responsibility to cover the cost of their education. They helped others and served as community leaders through various volunteer activities and were selected based on faculty and staff nominations and letters of recommendation from co-op supervisors.

The Engineering Trajectory Awards are given in the spirit of enabling students, through reduced student loan debt, to continue giving the gifts of their time and talents to lift up the communities in which they find themselves, both now and in the future.

“The Engineering Trajectory Award winners are highly accomplished student leaders whose volunteer work contributes meaningfully to our College, our University, and the community,” shared Dr. Joan Carletta, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. “We are thankful to the donors of these awards for their generous support of these exceptional students as they launch their careers.”

At the awards ceremony, current and past award recipients personally thanked the Northeast Ohio couple who generously provided this award.
