The Law School Admissions Council (LSAC)

The entire application process for the JD Program takes place through LSAC's online application portal. Below, we outline the required application components, all of which will be sent directly to LSAC. You can learn more about the application process and LSAC's application portal by visiting their website. While LSAC charges fees associated with the application process, please note that Akron Law does not charge an additional application fee.

Application Deadlines

You may start your studies in either January (spring semester) or August (fall semester). Admission to the JD Program is competitive. Applications must be submitted by the following deadlines:

Semester you wish to begin: Fall Spring
If you require a visa, apply no later than: March 15 October 15
If you do not require a visa to study in the United States, apply no later than: March 31 November 30

Late applications may be possible depending on space availability. However, it is not advisable to delay your application due to the competitive nature of law school admissions. If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Office at lawadmissions@uakron.edu or 1-800-425-7668.

Must Submit LSAT or GRE Score

Entrance Exam Score

A Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score not more than five years old from the time of application.
Please note: If you have taken both the LSAT and the GRE, we will consider both scores.

JD-Next

Akron Law has recently received a variance from the ABA to accept scores from the JD-Next program as part of our application process. However, at this time, we do not accept JD-Next scores in lieu of the LSAT or GRE. Therefore, all applicants must still submit a valid score from either the LSAT or the GRE as part of their application to Akron Law. Applicants who have taken the JD-Next program can also submit JD-Next scores to us and our admissions committee will consider those scores along with the LSAT or GRE score as part of the holistic review that every application receives.

Résumé

All applicants must submit a résumé with their application. This can include work history, student organization involvement, internship experience, volunteer service, and any awards or special recognition you have received.

Optional Application Components

The following application components are optional, but most applicants submit them. It is strongly suggested that all applicants include this information with their applications.

If an application is otherwise complete and these components are missing, the Admissions Committee will still consider the application complete and review it for a decision.

LORs

Letters of Recommendation (LORs) may be from professors, employers, colleagues, or others. Applicants who are currently enrolled in an academic program are strongly encouraged to submit LORs from professors. Applicants who have graduated but have significant work experience should seek LORs from employers, colleagues, or clients. All letters of recommendation must be submitted to LSAC as part of your CAS report.

"Why Akron?" Statement

In approximately one page (double-spaced) or less, you can share why you have chosen to apply to Akron Law. We recognize you have many options when choosing a law school, and the Admissions Committee is interested in what has attracted you to Akron Law.

Addendums

If there is anything else you would like to include with your application, you may do so in an addendum. You can upload this addendum in either of the Optional Addendum attachments at the end of the application. Please limit the size of such attachments, as the Admissions Committee typically reviews 1,000 to 1,500 applications per application cycle.
