Biography
Mayumi Kikuchi hails originally from Hamamatsu, Japan, and attended Chuo University where she majored in English literature. During her junior year, Mayumi was an exchange student at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, and she was awarded a two-year tuition-waiver scholarship for music instruction at the same institution. Subsequently, Mayumi began study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for her graduate work in piano performance where she received her Master and Doctoral of Musical Arts. Mayumi has studied under Ian Hobson, Fr. John Palmer c.s.v., William Browning, and Noriko Hikita. Ms. Kikuchi has given solo and chamber performances primarily in the Midwest and Eastern United States and in Italy and Japan.
During the 2001-2003 academic years, Dr. Kikuchi served as chair of the keyboard studies in the School of Music at the University of Akron and is currently the pianist for the Akropolis vocal ensemble. Prior to arriving in Akron, she taught piano at the University of Illinois, the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Winchester Community Music School, and Assumption College.
