What are Extramurals?
Extramurals refers to intramural-level tournaments that are held off-campus at colleges and universities across the country. Many are held within the state of Ohio, while others are held at the regional level in one of the nearby states, or even at the national level. Teams have the opportunity to represent The University of Akron against other intramural teams from different schools, and compete for a chance to be the best!
Tournaments may be offered in different sports, including flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis and even battleship. Extramurals are typically hosted by the governing campus recreation association known as NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, or our corresponding state association, ORSA: Ohio Recreational Sports Association. For more information about NIRSA and the various extramural tournaments offered throughout the year, please visit www.NIRSA.org and click on the “Play” tab for details.
