The University of Akron Arts Academy Summer Camp
Immerse your child in the arts this summer on campus at The University of Akron. Your child will spend their time exploring movement and dance with our staff at The Dance Institute and the University of Akron’s School of Dance. Next, they will head to art class with the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art and the staff of the Art Institute. Ready for some drama? Your student will join our friends at Rubber City Theatre as they learn what it takes to be an actor. Finally, the Music Institute and the University of Akron’s School of Music will help your budding young musician explore music. Explore and learn with The Arts Academy at The University of Akron. You can choose to attend just one session or come to both! Each week will feature a special campus experience like attending a ballet, getting a backstage tour of E.J. Thomas Hall, or visiting the Emily Davis Gallery!

Where: Classes will take part throughout the campus, but drop off and pick up will be at Guzzetta Hall on East Buchtel Ave.
What: A fun and immersive arts experience!!
Who: Open to anyone ages 6-12. (Students will be grouped by age and assigned a UA Camp Counselor). Camp size is limited.
Why: Arts programs prepare students for life and work in the 21st century by teaching persistence, leadership, and collaboration, creative thinking, creative problem-solving, motivation, and empathy. Through self-discovery and self-expression, your student will find community with their peers all while becoming more self-confident version of themselves.
A Typical Day at Camp:
9:00 AM-arrive at Guzzetta and attend our morning meeting. Learn about what the day will hold and prepare for some special guest performers!
9:35 AM-10:35 AM-Head to your first class in our state-of-the-art dance studios. The Dance Institute will lead you through a fun and high energy workout with our movement and exploration class. Be sure to bring a water bottle!
10:40-11:40 AM—Next you journey into our Art Classroom as you work with our staff from the Art Institute on exploring art technique. Each student will be creating work which will be showcased on campus in our galleries! Your first piece in a gallery…cool!
11:50 AM-12:15 AM –Time for Lunch! We will walk to the student union and enjoy our packed lunches.
12:20 PM-12:45 PM -Group activities and team building on the quad!!
12:50-1:50 PM Head downstairs into Guzzetta Hall for a class on bucket drumming with the Music Institute at The University of Akron’s School of Music. We will be learning proper technique and creating an original piece to perform later this week on campus!
1:55-2:55 PM Places Please! You will journey over to our partners at Rubber City Theatre to learn about theatre! Imagine as you become the character in your favorite story on our stage. Learning through improvisatory games, you will challenge your imagination and critical thinking skills.
Time to go home!!
