Scholarship Programs

UA offers thousands of scholarships and awards more than $17 million each year in scholarship aid. With the largest endowment of any public university in northern Ohio, UA is able to give many talented students the chance to study. Awards range from hundreds of dollars to complete, full-ride academic scholarships.

UA offers eight types of scholarships:

  1. New freshman academic scholarships are awarded based on GPA and standardized test scores provided during the admissions process. Learn more.

  2. Transfer academic scholarships are awarded based on information provided on transfer scholarship application. Learn more.

  3. Major-specific scholarships, including Choose Ohio First and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships, are awarded based on completion of specific requirements.

  4. Honors scholarships are awarded to students who have applied and are admitted into the Honors College.  Learn more.

  5. Endowedscholarships are funded by external donors and are awarded to some students who have demonstrated history of leadership, community service or other personal factors. 
  6. Non-Ohio residents may qualify for one of two out-of-state scholarship programs.

  7. Scholarships are also available from the Office of Accessibility, Alumni AssociationMilitary Services Center (for veterans) and ROTC.

  8. External scholarships are offered through Americorp and the Educational Training Voucher.

Scholarship Questions

I am an incoming freshman with a high GPA/test score – why didn’t I get a scholarship?

You must be fully admitted to the University by March 1 to be considered for all available scholarships.

I am an incoming freshman and my GPA is higher than 3.0 – why didn’t I get a scholarship?

The academic scholarships are awarded based on the highest combination of high school GPA and standardized test scores. If you did not score high enough on the standardized tests, you would not have been awarded a scholarship.

Where can I get the New Freshmen and/or Continuing Students & Transfer Students scholarship application?

When is the scholarship application due?

  • Incoming Freshmen - April 1
  • Continuing Student – May 1
  • Transfer Students 
    • May 1 if transfer is effective Fall semester 
    • November 1 for mid-year transfer students

How do I maintain my scholarship eligibility?

Scholarship renewal requirements are communicated when the scholarship is awarded. Please refer to your original scholarship offer letter for complete details.

How do I check to see if my scholarship has been applied to my account?

You can view your account in ZipLine to verify that your scholarship has been applied to your account. 

  1. Go to ZipLine
  2. Enter your UANet ID and password
  3. Click on "Access My... Student Center"
  4. Scroll down to "Finances"
  5. Under the Finances tab, click on "View Financial Aid"
  6. Select the upcoming aid year

I’ve been awarded a scholarship from an organization or individual outside of the university. How do I get the money to UA?
