Research Accomplishments

Dr. Friberg's research focuses on metamorphic petrology of Precambrian rocks of the northwestern U.S.. The Early Proterozoic rocks of the Black Hills of South Dakota have been the field area for his most recent research. Electron microprobe analyses are used to characterize the chemistry of the metamorphic minerals.

Temperature-pressure determinations from coexisting metamorphic minerals are used in the interpretation of the Early Proterozoic tectonic evolution of the Black Hills

Dr. Friberg's other research projects include: 1) Development of thermobarometric software for processing P-T-XI data. 2) Chemistry of metamorphic tourmalines and chlorite and relationships with coexisting metamorphic minerals.
