FREN 101 - BEGINNING FRENCH I

4.00 credits
Students will learn the fundamentals of beginning language including acquisition of language functions, vocabulary, structures, and culture through contextualized presentations, as well as interactive activities, and extensive oral and written practice. This course will provide beginning students with background in listening to, speaking, reading, and writing French. Students will also develop an understanding of the people and cultures of the francophone world. 

FREN 102 - BEGINNING FRENCH II

4.00 credits
Students will continue with their study of the French language with the acquisition of basic reading, speaking, writing, and listening comprehension skills. Emphasis will be place on the development of self-expression in everyday situations through culturally authentic media and texts.
Pre-requisites: FREN 101 or equivalent. 

FREN 201 - INTERMEDIATE FRENCH I

3.00 credits

This course is designed to further develop skills in French while increasing awareness of the French and Francophone world. Students will be conducting conversations on a variety of topics beyond simple ‘survival’ situations and comprehend spoken French with sufficient ability to grasp the main idea and supporting details of conversations. More attention will be given to reading, writing and grammar so that students may read and understand the details of literary and non-literary texts about a variety of topics.
Pre-requisites: FREN 102 or equivalent. 

FREN 202 - INTERMEDIATE FRENCH II

3.00 credits
This course is designed to further develop skills in French while increasing awareness of the French and Francophone world. Continuing acquisition of competence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension using culturally authentic materials. Emphasis will be given to developing accuracy and self-expression in a wide range of situations.
Pre-requisites: FREN 201 or equivalent. 

FREN 422 - FRENCH: SPECIAL TOPICS

1.00 - 4.00 credits
Development of specialized language skills or reading of significant works of literature or culture not studied in other courses. 
Pre-requisites: FREN 202 or equivalent.
