Undergraduate Classical Guitar Audition Requirements

Applicants should prepare two works of a contrasting nature, demonstrating both technical facility and expressive abilities. Works are to be drawn from the standard repertoire and may be from any period, Renaissance to modern. Note, more weight is given to a demonstration of healthy technique and credible mastery of the material presented than to the difficulty of the repertoire. Scales, arpeggio and ligado skills will be assessed. Applicants will also be asked to sight read.

Audition and Entry Requirements - Graduate

Prospective students must have performed at least two programs of solo repertoire (junior and senior recitals). For the audition, they should plan on three works: one by Bach, one Classical or Romantic (or of a lyrical nature), and one contemporary. Note: more weight is given to a demonstration of healthy technique and credible mastery of the material presented than to the difficulty of the repertoire. They will be asked to play scales and to demonstrate other techniques such as tremolo, various arpeggio patterns, etc. They will be asked to sight-read.
