The scholarship was established in 1996 in honor of Dr. Karam by his wife, Annetta Karam. It provides an annual award to worthy BS/MD students enrolled at UA, based on merit and financial need. Renewal is contingent upon the student maintaining a 3.4 overall GPA at the end of the first year.

- Major-specific and Honors scholarships are awarded based on completion of specific requirements.
- Endowed scholarships are awarded to some students who have demonstrated history of leadership, community service or other personal factors.
