Entrepreneurship Summit offers opportunities to network and learn08/26/2011
UA students, as well community members, can pitch their business ideas and take a run at winning $10,000 in start-up funding when the one-day Akron Creating (330) CEOs Entrepreneurship Summit 2011 is held on campus Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Registration is free for the summit, which will be presented by LRMR Innovative Marketing and Branding in partnership with the University's College of Business Administration and the Office of Inclusion and Equity. LRMR, based in Cleveland, represents basketball star LeBron James and other professional athletes and entertainers.
A highlight of the summit is the 60-second Business Pitch Challenge for students and local aspiring entrepreneurs. Ten to 20 participants will be chosen to pitch their business ideas in 60 seconds or less and will compete for a chance to win $10,000 in start-up funding and eight weeks of business mentoring by 100 Urban Entrepreneurs.
Visit UA's Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies to learn more about the education and research opportunities available to students.
A national nonprofit organization, 100 Urban Entrepreneurs is funded by several celebrities with a goal to finance and mentor 100 entrepreneurs from economically disadvantaged communities within 12 months. Often using the format of live business-pitch events in cities across the United States, the organization is highlighting the urban community's untapped business potential.
The morning workshops, titled How to Deliver a Winning Pitch and Creating a Business for Under $1,000, will feature individuals sharing their experiences of launching their own companies. The afternoon will offer a panel discussion featuring the principals of LRMR and the 60-second Business Pitch Challenge. An Entrepreneurship Networking Luncheon will feature Jesse Itzler, co-founder of 100 Mile Group.
Entrepreneurship Summit 2011 will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Check in begins at 8 a.m. The cost of the luncheon, which is optional, is $10 for UA students and $15 for nonstudents. A networking reception will conclude the day.
