On Saturday, February 27, 2010, two teams of CBA students competed in the Ohio HR Games at Baldwin-Wallace College. The Akron Gold Team members are: Thomas Huth, Patrick Sluder, and Dan Houston. The Akron Blue Team members are: Juanita Deptowicz, Rachel DeChurch, and Rebecca Discenza.
This annual program brings together HR majors from colleges around Ohio to compete in a jeopardy-style tournament that tests HR knowledge and encourages growth and professional development in the HR field.
At Saturday’s event, the UA teams went up against teams from several Ohio colleges including Toledo, Cleveland State, Xavier, and John Carroll. After five rounds of competition, the two UA teams had the highest scores.
The semi-final elimination rounds ended with the UA teams as the winners, meaning they would play against each other for the championship!
The championship round was very close and exciting. Dr. Steven Ash, associate chair of the Department of Management who serves as faculty adviser for both teams, noted, “The winner was in doubt until the very last question.” In the end, Akron Gold took first place, and Akron Blue took second.
Both teams will compete in the regional games at Purdue University on April 23 – 25, 2010.
