Biography

Cory Hersh, M.Ed. (he/him/his) is a psychology intern completing his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at Cleveland State University.  He has had practicum doctoral experiences in a variety of centers, including a university counseling center, a community mental health center, and a private practice.  Cory completed his master’s degree in counseling psychology at Temple University.  Cory’s professional interests include providing treatment and assessment services to clients from diverse backgrounds with a variety of concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity formation, and career issues.  Cory has a particular interest in working with student-athletes regarding their mental well-being.  His research interests include athletic and post-athletic identity, career self-efficacy in student-athletes, loss of sport/life after sport, and resiliency and grit in student-athletes.  Cory strongly believes in meeting each client where they are and adapting the therapy process to fit their individual needs.  He draws from a person-centered theoretical framework, while incorporating different therapeutic interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).  In his free time, Cory enjoys working out, reading epic fantasy and science fiction books, spending time with family and friends, and watching Cleveland sports.  He is excited to work with the students and staff at the University of Akron this year!
