UA mourns Gary Taylor, successful businessman and devoted alumnus

The University of Akron mourns the passing of Gary L. Taylor, distinguished alumnus, benefactor, and cherished friend. The founder of Akron-based InfoCision Management Corp., Taylor will be remembered in the University’s history for his unwavering efforts to expand opportunities for deserving students. He passed away March 2, three years after suffering a heart attack.

Known for his quick wit and hearty smile, Taylor, 59, exemplified what vision and dedicated action could accomplish. His long list of civic and professional service included philanthropic support on behalf of The University of Akron that literally changed the institution’s course. In 2004, he and his wife, Karen, established The Gary L. and Karen S. Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing in the College of Business Administration. And Taylor’s leading contribution to the University’s on-campus football stadium in 2009, subsequently named InfoCision Stadium, speaks volumes about his affinity for his alma mater and his commitment to the Akron community he loved.

An Akron native, Taylor was a two-time graduate of The University of Akron, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1975 and an MBA in 1977. His business acumen drove InfoCision Management Corp. to its present status as the second-largest privately held teleservices company in the world, employing more than 4,000 people.

In addition to his wife, Taylor is survived by his children, Lindsay Rose Tadsen (Thomas David) and Craig Scott (Mindi Michelle); and one grandson, Thomas David Tadsen III.
