The University of Akron Women’s Swimming and Diving team will continue making waves and leaving competitors in its wake, thanks to the generosity of the Women’s Committee of The University of Akron.

The committee provided an $18,000 gift, which includes $12,000 from the Women’s Committee and $6,000 from personal contributions by individual members, for the team to acquire a multi-camera above and underwater recording system.

The camera system allows coaches to view and record training sessions and competitions from multiple angles simultaneously so they can offer immediate analysis and feedback to swimmers and divers, helping to strengthen their performance.

Head coach Brian Peresie expressed his gratitude to Women’s Committee members for their support and for the impact the gift will have on the program: “The Swimming and Diving team is forever indebted to the Women’s Committee,” he said. “The committee’s generosity exceeded expectations, and we are very fortunate to have the extraordinary support of this organization. The camera system is a transformational gift that will give the Lady Zips a significant edge in future seasons. It puts us in front of our competition and provides a platform to continue up the ranks in the NCAA.”

The system also will assist with recruitment and help attract participants to swimming and diving camps and clinics on the UA campus. Members of the swimming and diving program who host competitions will use the system for live video streams and post-competition race analysis. Students using the cameras for live streaming will gain unique experience working with cameras in an underwater environment, broadening their skillset.

The Swimming and Diving team, whose members come from throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Poland and Spain, has captured the Mid-American Conference championship for the last four consecutive years.

Annually, The University of Akron Women’s Committee, which was founded in 1948, contributes volunteer hours and resources to UA interests and students. The committee’s support includes opportunities for students to study abroad, an annual lecture series, and scholarship for students in disciplines within the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences.
