Emily B. Kennedy
Emily enrolled at the University of Akron in August 2012, and is a member of the first cohort of Biomimicry Fellows. She is advised by Dr. Peter Niewiarowski of the Biology Department, and is sponsored by GOJO Industries, Inc. For her dissertation, she is focusing on developing and testing tools that support biomimetic innovation and experimental idea generation.
Emily is originally from Topsfield, MA, a suburb of Boston. She has a B.A. in International Relations (Minor: Environmental Studies) from Colgate University. Emily was introduced to biomimicry during a semester of study abroad at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. While there, she took a course about the biomimicry potential of Australia's unique rainforest and reef species. After graduating from Colgate and prior to enrolling at the University of Akron, she worked for an environmental consulting firm on national and international business development, as well as natural resources related project work.
