The Department of Political Science at The University of Akron has a strong faculty dedicated to teaching and scholarship in the field of political science.

The faculty is equally dedicated to excellence in teaching. Many employ various modes of multi-media instruction, service learning, internships, and other innovative teaching exercises. The department emphasizes its practical orientation toward career planning, and personnel are available to provide such advice and counseling.

The Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics
The Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics is a bipartisan research and teaching institute within the University of Akron. It is dedicated to increasing understanding of the political process with special emphasis on political parties, grassroots activity, and ethical behavior. The Bliss Institute works in autonomous affiliation and active cooperation with the university’s Department of Political Science. The institute and the department collaborate in providing academic curricula and other activities that support their related missions, including internship programs, academic programs in applied politics, scholarship, and public events. Members of the institute frequently are professors in the department and several faculty members of the department are fellows of the institute.
