The buzz on campus

Leave early if you are coming to weekend events

Weather permitting, Route 8 southbound will be down to one lane from Tallmadge Avenue to Perkins Street from 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25. Significant delays are expected.

If you are coming to events on campus this weekend, you should leave home early. We recommend that motorists follow this alternative route:

  1. exit Route 8 at Tallmadge Avenue and turn right onto Tallmadge Avenue (westbound);
  2. turn left onto Main Street (southbound);
  3. after the All American Bridge, Main Street turns into South High Street;
  4. remain on South High Street until you get to University Avenue;
  5. turn left into University Avenue, which will take you past E.J. Thomas Hall.

Even if you take the alternative route, you should anticipate significant delays.

ODOT is repairing the deck of the Route 8 bridge over North Street and the Little Cuyahoga River.

Welcome Week for new students

Welcome Week, set this year for Aug. 22-28, is a series of activities and programs intended to help new students get acquainted with other students and with everything that UA has to offer. You won't want to miss it! All about Welcome Week.

UA enhances services to veterans and active service members

UA is making it easier for veterans, reservists, active service members and their dependents to attend UA through the new Military Services Center.

Among other services, the center helps students:

  • enroll in classes;
  • locate any student services they might need;
  • complete and submit the required forms to the Veterans Administration to receive U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits; and
  • submit transcripts to receive credit for military experience and training.

The Military Services Center's Web site has more information. The center, in Simmons Hall 120, is part of the Office of the University Registrar and currently serves more than 450 service members and dependents. Direct any questions about the center to either 330-972-7838 or veterans@uakron.edu.
