Dr. Delila Owens
Dr. Delila Owens is Associate Professor of School Counseling and Counselor Education at The University of Akron, and is a certified school counselor. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Michigan State University. Most of her prior research has focused on school persistence in African American males. Her research interests include school and cross cultural counseling, urban education and emotional/social development of Black girls'/women. She has been in various leadership positions in the field, including president of North Central ACES, a regional association of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) whose members represent 13 states in the central and upper Midwestern United States. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Career Development Quarterly and the Journal of School Counseling.
Professor Owens received her B.A. from Ferris State University, her M.A. from Central Michigan University and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in counselor education with a specialization in school counseling.
