The University of Akron’s Robotics Team outperformed dozens of other teams that participated in the RoboGames competition this weekend in San Francisco.
Of the 10 robots UA entered into the contest, the robotics team’s “Balancebot” took first place. Coming in second place were the “Fire Fighting Robot” and the 340-pound super-heavyweight “Combatbot.” The team’s “Mazebot” and “Ribbon-climber” tied for third place.
The competition hosted 600 participants from more than 20 countries and attracted 7,000-plus spectators, who came to watch the more than 60 competitions.
“Our students were great representatives of the University and the department. They showed tremendous persistence and creativity in overcoming a variety of challenges,” says Dr. Tom Hartley, professor of electrical and computer engineering and UA Robotics team adviser.
