Walter L. Hixson

Walter L. Hixson, distinguished professor of history at The University of Akron, will present a free public lecture on "People and Places in the Israel-Palestine Conflict" Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. in UA’s Leigh Hall 107.

Hixson, who specializes in U.S. foreign policy, recently returned from a two-week delegation to Israel-Palestine and the south of Lebanon. He participated in seminars with Israeli and Palestinian citizens, academics and activists working on behalf of peace in the Middle East.

Hixson plans to teach an upper-division history seminar, "The United States, Israel and Palestine," in spring 2013 and work with activist communities in Northeast Ohio, nationally and internationally in pursuit of a settlement of the conflict.

Inter-faith Peace Builders, a nongovernmental organization based in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, sponsored the 24-member delegation in which Hixson took part.
