Dr. Lu-Kwang (Luke) Ju, distinguished professor of chemical, biomolecular and corrosion engineering at the University of Akron (UA), has been awarded National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Senior Membership by the 2024 NAI Senior Member Advisory Committee and Board of Directors.
NAI awards Senior Membership to inventors who have brought innovations and opportunities to different industries, communities and societies, while successfully commercializing their inventions.
Ju earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the National Taiwan University. He also earned both a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from The State University at New York, Buffalo. He worked for BioChem Technologies, Inc. as a senior Research engineer before joining the Department of Chemical Engineering at UA as an assistant professor. During his time at UA, Ju rose to a full professor and served as the department chair of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. He is currently a distinguished professor for the Department of Chemical, Biomolecular and Corrosion Engineering at UA.
Ju’s research focuses on renewable biofuel and chemical feedstock, and environmental bioengineering. Since starting as an assistant professor in 1990, Ju and his research team, “Ju Research Group,” have published an astounding 145 publications, and Ju himself holds numerous affiliations and research awards.
“Dr. Ju is an esteemed member of our faculty who consistently pushes the boundaries of research and innovation. This recognition is well-deserved,” said Craig Menzemer, dean of the College of Engineering and Polymer Science.
