Institutional Marketing leads the institution-level integrated marketing and communications efforts for The University of Akron. We collaborate with communicators across campus to ensure consistent messaging, strategic marketing efforts and strong brand development for the University.
We do this by focusing our efforts on University activities that best reflect the creation of new knowledge, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship – all for the purpose of providing an environment that enables student success.
Through strategic and creative communications, we demonstrate how the University provides value to its varied constituents and helps fulfill the University’s collective goals toward student success; global relevance; interdisciplinary distinction; strong community engagement; and a vital campus environment. Institutional Marketing and Communications functions are under the leadership of the Office of the President. This centralized approach brings aspects of marketing communication together to effectively position the University in a consistent and coordinated manner.
Leading the group are Eileen Korey, associate vice president for communications and chief communications officer, and Wayne Hill, associate vice president for marketing and chief marketing officer.
The Department of Institutional Marketing is in the Administrative Services Building at 185 Mill St.
Marketing and Communications provides general marketing, advertising, news and public relations strategy and planning support to the University, colleges, schools and major units. Marketing staff can help you develop a plan and/or a message that is effective and reinforces UA’s key messages. This office can assist you with developing your sub-brand, which complements the overarching UA brand.

The emphasis is on innovation in The University of Akron's newest television commercial.
Building on the momentum established by previous commercials, the new 30-second spot, "Energy to Gold," links the energy concept introduced in recent years to the University's "new gold standard" theme.
The ad showcases our learning environment and continues the story the University has been telling for several years — that The University of Akron is a regional and national leader in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
In a recent survey, 85 percent of parents indicated to us that UA has had a significant positive impact on the region, due in part to the visibility generated by the television commercials. The research also shows that our ads are noticed and memorable. This year’s ad promises to be just as exciting, highlighting the energy that is reflected daily on our campus.
