This collection largely focuses on the Local 31 and includes a variety of materials such as manuals, reports, ledgers, dues books, a film, membership forms, attendance records, benefit forms, shop cards, cash books, agreements, insurance information and minutes. The bulk of the collection consists of local contracts and negotiations.

University Club of Akron

Contains minutes of board meetings, minutes of annual meetings, financial and accountants statements, rosters of members, committee and officer correspondence, merger documents, theatrical show programs, pamphlets, photographs, deeds, and time-log books.


University of Akron General History Records

Range: 1893 - 1990 Size: 0.5 cubic feet Record Group: 2

The general history records contain correspondence, historical summaries, and reminiscences primarily relating to the early years of Buchtel College.  A majority of the correspondence including in this collection are former students and alumni remembering their time at Buchtel College.  Of special note is a student letter written immediately following the Buchtel Hall fire of 1899.  Other topics include the college’s founders, Lucinda “Aunty” Brown’s boarding house, and student activities during World War I and II.

Collections in Archival Services are classified by the following ways:

  • University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
  • Special Collections contains personal papers of local families/individuals and organizational records of local organizations/businesses.  Strengths of the collection are primary and secondary sources documenting the history of the rubber industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
  • Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics.  All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
