Definitions
Academic Hold: students who have not met with their adviser for a required meeting for students
who are not making adequate progress toward their degrees will have a hold placed on their account so they are unable to register for classes
Academic Status
Academic Honors: students with a minimum 3.25 GPA are added to the Dean’s List
Summa Cum Laude: honors recognition for undergraduate students who have obtained a
cumulative (includes all course attempts) GPA of 3.80 or higher
Magna Cum Laude: honors recognition for undergraduate students who have obtained a cumulative
(includes all course attempts) GPA between 3.60 and 3.79
Cum Laude: honors recognition for undergraduate students who have obtained a cumulative
(includes all course attempts) GPA between 3.40 and 3.59
Good Standing: students with a minimum 2.0 GPA are in good standing
Academic Action
Term Warning: student who fails to maintain a 2.0 GPA for a semester receives a warning. Student
is required to meet with academic adviser and will be responsible for completing an academic plan
during the following semester. An academic advising hold is placed on a student account if a
student fails to do so.
Academic Probation: student who fails to maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA is placed on
academic probation; failure to improve the academic record within a specified time may result in
suspension or dismissal
Special Probation: student who fails to maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and has a quality
point deficit of 10 points or higher is placed on special academic probation; an academic recovery
plan must be developed; failure to complete the terms of the academic recovery plan and/or to
improve the academic record within a specified time may result in suspension or dismissal
Dismissal: student who is no longer permitted to take coursework for credit at the University
