Welcome to The University of Akron School of Nursing website.
As you browse our information, I encourage you to look critically at our programs, our people and our philosophy; I hope you find answers to the questions you have about why this School provides a unique and special environment for student nurses. Across our curriculum, from our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to our PhD program, the School of Nursing is committed to our mission of transforming lives.
The RN-to-BSN program offers licensed RNs the opportunity to attend classes in an online program or in one of six locations – Main Campus, Wayne College, Lorain County Community College University Partnership, Medina County University Center, UA Lakewood, and The Holden Center at Lakeland Community College. Close to home or online, this program is a convenient way for nurses to obtain their degree.
Our Accelerated BSN program helps those degreed individuals in other disciplines to enter the nursing profession after four semesters of classes. Our Master's degree program in Anesthesia is among the best in the country boasting enviable pass rates on the national certification exam combined with unparalleled retention rates. Our other Master degree program tracks for nurse practitioners in a wide-range of disciplines provide exceptional preparation for our students.
In addition, the School of Nursing offers a clinical doctorate, which is our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. This is a terminal clinical degree that educates students with the skills and competencies needed to assume advaced practice leadership positions in a variety of complex health care environements.
The PhD in Nursing is a joint program between The University of Akron School of Nursing and Kent State University College of Nursing. The focus of the PhD program is to prepare nurse scholars with expertise in discovery and integration, and it provides opportunities for the development of scholarship in application and teaching.
At The University of Akron School of Nursing, we understand that nursing is a special vocation. Nursing combines an in-depth knowledge of science with an understanding of the humanities to create the art of nursing, and the opportunity to change lives.
