All students new to The University of Akron will attend a New Student Orientation (NSO). Directly admitted students to the School of Nursing will be brought to the School of Nursing for their Academic Advisement session. The advisers in Student Affairs will present college and program information as well as assist the students in preparing their schedule for the coming term.
Students admitted through either University College or Summit College will receive their advisement through their respective college.
Students who are NOT required to attend NSO (former UA students and postbaccalaureate students) will be instructed to contact directly the appropriate adviser for their intended major as early as possible. Individual advisement appointments will be set once the student has been fully admitted.
Every BSN option offers a detailed orientation for students beginning the nursing curriculum. Students entering the major will receive notice of when their orientation will take place. The only exception to this rule is for the LPNs. Their orientation is woven through the first nursing course they take once prerequisites are completed: Transition to Baccalaureate Nursing for LPNs (8200:216).
