Unsettling the Museum: Exhibiting Contemporary Art in the Oak Native American Gallery
Opening May 5, 2026. A free opening reception well be held on May 5 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Institute for Human Science and Culture, Oak Native American Gallery
During the Spring 2026 semester, students in the Institute’s Unsettling the Museum [Un]Class have been working to unlearn colonial habits and practices surrounding Native American art. Together with their instructors (Dr. Jodi Kearns, Dr. Paul Edward Montgomery Ramírez, and Dr. Hillary Nunn) they’re developing new museum content modeled after Indigenous methods. The Unsettling the Museum installation explores this ongoing exercise – from writing to building relationships – alongside contemporary art from the Oak Native American Collection.
