2014 Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Youngdon Kwon, Ph.D. 1994

Youngdon Kwon received his B.S. in 1985 and M.S. degree in 1987 in the Department of Textile Engineering from the Seoul National University in Korea. In 1989, he entered the doctoral program in the Department of Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron, where he studied under Professor Arkady Leonov. After receiving the Ph.D. degree in 1994, he joined in 1995 the Department of Textile Engineering of Sungkyunkwan University in Korea as an assistant professor.

Dr. Kwon’s main research interest is focused on mathematical analysis of rheological constitutive equations and computational modeling of non-Newtonian fluid mechanics with emphasis on elastic flow instability. He is currently a full professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University and has worked as a Visiting Professor at both Cornell and Kyoto Universities.

Dr. Kwon is an active member of the Korean Society of Rheology and served as an Associate Editor for the Korea-Australia Rheology Journal from 2000 to 2006. He received the SKKU Teaching Award of Sungkyunkwan University in 2012.
