Beta Gamma Sigma Honors CBA's Best and Brightest

On April 12, 2013, at a banquet and induction ceremony for the Kappa of Ohio Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the CBA honored fifty-five of the College’s best and brightest students and one outstanding faculty member. The event was attended by UA Provost Mike Sherman; Brad Dickerson ’87, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Accounting Officer of Under Armour, Inc., who was the guest speaker; Kara Mirkin, interim president of the Cleveland Area Alumni Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma; CBA faculty and staff; friends and family of the inductees; and members of the business community.

Life-time Recognition

Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society that recognizes the best business students in business programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Induction into Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can attain at an AACSB-accredited college or university.  It provides life-time membership in the honor society, as well as numerous other benefits.

The 23 juniors, 13 seniors and 19 master’s students inducted on April 12, represent the top 10 percent of the CBA’s junior and senior classes and the top 20 percent of the master’s class, based on academic ranking.  A CBA faculty member, Dr. HakJoon Song, was also inducted based on his outstanding academic accomplishments and contributions to the College.

The Kappa of Ohio Chapter also recognized CBA alum, Brad Dickerson, for possessing the qualities fostered by Beta Gamma Sigma and for furthering the ideals of the Society through outstanding business and managerial leadership. He was named a Chapter Honoree and awarded honorary membership in the Society.  Dickerson graduated from the CBA in 1987 with a bachelor’s of accountancy degree.  He also holds an Executive MBA degree from Loyola University in Maryland.  He has served as CFO for Under Armour, Inc. since 2008.

Outstanding Students

Among the CBA’s best students, three students in each rank were recognized for exceptional accomplishments. They were selected for achieving academic excellence while making significant contributions to the college or university; and/or maintaining significant involvement in extracurricular or community activities; and/or overcoming a special circumstance or hardship. For 2012-13, the Outstanding Students are:

 Outstanding Junior - Courtney Ou

 Outstanding Senior - Joshua Lehman

Outstanding Master’s Student - Jadgesh Ramjit

BGS Scholarship

This year, the Cleveland Area Alumni Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma selected the CBA’s Kappa of Ohio chapter to receive its annual BGS scholarship.  Kari Mirkin, the alumni chapter’s interim president, awarded the S1, 000 scholarship to BGS member, Danielle Shaffer, for the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year.  Shaffer was selected on the basis of her academic and professional accomplishments and involvement in CBA and campus activities.
