Hower House Museum Guild

The Hower House Museum Guild was formed in 2016/2017, resulting from the merger of two volunteer groups at the HHM:  the Friends of Hower House (founded 1974) and the Hower House Victorians (founded 1979).

The Friends of HH saved the mansion from demolition and an uncertain future, raised funds to renovate and restore its former majesty.  The Victorians were formed to assist with daily operations and provide tours of the museum.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Hower House Museum.  Although the property has been owned by The University of Akron since 1970, the dedicated volunteers donate the priceless gift of their time and talents to keep the doors open to the public during tours, programs, and events offered at the HHM.

Student Service Hours

Students often need to have service hours that provide practical experience and skills for future employment and as resume builders.

Conveniently located on The University of Akron campus, providing student service hours at the Hower House Museum can be worked into busy study schedules, with many projects available.

The Hower House Museum is dedicated to helping students become valuable members of our community. We are willing and committed to customizing a student’s volunteer experience to what is required for their curriculum. Please call 330.972.6909 or email howerhouse@uakron.edu. Currently we facilitate opportunities for responsible and eager students ages 14+ (with permission from parent or guardian).
