Corbin Foundation was created in 1968 by Mr. and Mrs. Corbin to help enrich the lives of the people of Akron and Summit County, Ohio. Mr. Corbin (1901-1979) owned and founded City Chevrolet in Akron, one of the largest automobile dealerships in Ohio, and took part in many business and civic organizations. The records include letters, newspaper clippings, funded projects files, photographs, scrapbooks, certificates, and biographical information that document the history of the foundation and the life and work of the Corbins.

Since its inception, the organization has met monthly for a business meeting, luncheon, and presentation relating to social work. Collyer (1893-1979) was a mechanical engineer and naval architect who served as Vice President at Dunlop Tire & Rubber Company before becoming President of the B.F. Goodrich Company where he contributed to the development and production of synthetic rubber. His papers include newspaper clippings and photographs documenting his life and work.
Colley, Russell S.
Range: 1933 - 1971 Size: 0.5 cubic foot Record Group: 99/239Russell S. Colley (1899-1996) was a mechanical engineer at the B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio and later the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He is known as inventor or co-inventor of numerous products including the "Riv-nut" that allowed a single worker to affix rivets to airplane wings and the first aircraft de-icer. Dubbed the "First Tailor of the Space Age" and "Father of the Spacesuit," Colley is also known for the design and development of space suits, including those worn by daredevil pilot Wiley Post and the Mercury astronauts. His papers include photographs, patents, and printed materials documenting his life and work.

Cleveland Composers’ Guild Records
Range: 1975 - 2001 Size: 11.0 Record Group:The Cleveland Composers Guild (CCG) is an organization that promotes the music of professional composer-members living in Northeast Ohio through recordings, a publication series, and free multi-disciplinary concerts. One of the nation’s oldest new music organizations, CCG has had more than 200 members over its 50-year history. The records include subject files, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, flyers, concert programs, awards, music scores, cassette tapes, and CDs documenting the history of the CCG and its members.
Clark, C. J., Collection
Range: 1922 - 1933 Size: 0.33 cubic feet Record Group:Mrs. C.J. Clark, an early radio enthusiast, transcribed radio program transmissions from around the world and corresponded with various radio stations in the 1920s and ‘30s. Her collection includes scrapbooks, postcards, and correspondence collected by Clark over a ten year period.

During his administration he battled intercity decay, loss of industry, unemployment, and migration of residents and retail to the suburbs with urban renewal and revitalization of the downtown area. The records from Ballard’s administration include subject files, scrapbooks, and legal records documenting his administration as well as information on boards and commissions, urban aid programs, and civil disturbances of the late 1960s.

Range: 1976 - 1979 Size: 0.25 cubic feet Record Group: 99/143The Citizens for a County Charter was a bi-partisan, twenty-five member committee formed in 1979 to draft a charter for Summit County, Ohio and place it on the November ballot that year. Known as Issue 2, it passed on November 6, 1979 and went into effect on January 1, 1981. The records include materials pertaining to various aspects of the 1979 campaign for the adoption of a Summit County Charter including proposals, publicity, campaign plans, and correspondence.

Her collection includes publications, correspondence, photographs, drawings, and newspaper clippings that document Akron/Summit County and Ohio history. Topics include The University of Akron, Akron during World War II, area families, Akron clubs and associations, the War of 1812, and Summit County government, agencies, schools, and special interest groups. The collection also includes copies of the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company’s newsletter the Non-skid.

Cain, John W.
Range: 1890 - 1930 Size: 1 cubic foot Record Group: 99/86John W. Cain was a contractor from Akron, Ohio who married Emma Von Kanel, widow of Walter H. Bowman, a photographer from Canton, Ohio who died in 1912. The photographs were mostly taken by Walter Bowman and John Cain and primarily include professional portraits of the Cain and Von Kanel families during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also included are snapshots of family members and their travels as well as buildings and neighborhoods in Akron, Massillon, and surrounding areas. The collection also contains some postcards and family correspondence.

Collections are classified into the following broad categories:
- University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
- Special Collections documents regional (mainly Akron and Summit County) history, and other designated collecting areas. Special Collections materials include personal and family papers and historical records of local governments, businesses, and civic and community organizations. Collection strengths are the history of the rubber and polymer industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
- Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics. All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
