MISSION OF THE PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT
The primary goal of the Philosophy Department is to enhance and improve the intellectual quality of education of every undergraduate student at the University of Akron by developing their critical thinking, reasoning, and evaluative skills. These skills are necessary for success in every discipline and are of significant importance to each student's personal fulfillment and future success in any chosen occupation.
The Philosophy Department is a complex of offices that houses a small computer lab, lounge area, and private library for philosophy students. The library is used for department meetings and small seminar classes, such as the one pictured here.
Lunches are held several times a semester in the lounge area, where philosophy faculty, staff, and students bring in food and eat together in a relaxed, informal setting. The lunches typically have a designated theme, usually philosophical, making the selection of food both fun and thought-provoking.
