Stanely Emotions and Aging Lab- Seal
Project Description:
The Stanley Emotions and Aging Lab is always looking for bright and motivated students to get involved in the lab. We study social cognition, emotions, and aging. In Spring 2026, students would work on three projects in the lab. First, we are conducting a replication project investigating perceptions of learning styles. We are in the data collection phase of this project. PREP students would assist the lab team with running participants through the standardized protocol for this project in the lab. Second, we are conducting an archival analysis of humor styles to understand how humor styles might change across the lifespan. PREP students would be involved with transcribing comic videos and using running the transcripts through the linguistic analysis software. Third, PREP students would also work closely with a graduate student on a project related to aging and social cognition (e.g., generativity and intergenerational interactions; aging and future possible selves, aging and daily positive emotional experiences).
What Would You Learn?
In the Emotions and Aging Lab, undergraduate research assistants learn about the research process by working closely with one or two graduate students on the graduate students’ research projects as well as our team projects. This model provides research assistants experience with each stage of the research process including conducting literature reviews, reading research articles, designing studies, collecting data, entering/verifying data, helping with analyses, and assisting with presentation of results. Especially motivated students have been involved in attending conferences to present results as co-authors with graduate students.
Commitment:
4 hours per week (translates to 2 credits of PSYC 497: Independent Reading & Research). One hour is the mandatory lab meeting (we will pick a time that works for everyone in the lab). The other 3 hours per week are "lab hours" and can fit within your schedule during normal business hours.
