PREP: Psychology Research ExPerience Tiered Mentoring Program

The Psychology Research ExPerience (PREP) Tiered Mentoring Program at the University of Akron invites undergraduate students to work one-on-one with faculty and graduate students to gain research experience in the field of Psychology. 

The Tiered Mentoring program is made possible by a BCAS Advantage Grant from the College of Arts and Sciences. 


The Psychology Department is debuting our inaugural Tiered Mentoring program for Spring 2026. Applications are due on Sunday, December 21st at 11:59pm, and we hope to have students placed into these opportunities by the end of January. Here are the opportunities available to our students:

How to Participate in Psychology Research ExPerience Tiered Mentoring Program

  1. Review the research oppertunities and fill out the application, identifying 5 research projects you would be interested in particapting in. 
  2. Once the application deadline passes, the faculty mentors leading the projects will determine the candidates that best fit the project and offer them a position in January. 
  3. After being accepted, your Faculty Mentor will be in touch to discuss the project's start and end date aas well as how many weeky hours of participation are required. 
  4. As a participant, you will recieve class credit by enrolling in a section of PSYC 497: Independant Reading & Research under your Faculty Mentor. The number of credits taken will vary based on the decided amount of hours you will participate, with the range being 1-3 total credits.
