Biography
Katie Butler is a painter based in Akron, Ohio. Her still-life based work examines the relationship between money and power, criticizing the imbalances that exist in our political and economic systems.
Recent exhibitions include Abattoir Gallery, Cleveland, OH; Unit London, England; Marrow Gallery, San Francisco, CA; HESSE FLATOW, New York, NY; Green Gallery, Milwaukee, WI; Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston, MA; and Hashimoto Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA.
Her 2023 solo presentation at HESSE FLATOW, New York, NY was featured as a “Must See” exhibition in ArtForum, and her work has appeared in New American Paintings, Harper's Magazine, Two Coats of Paint, Canvas Cleveland, and the CAN Journal. She is an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grantee and has been an artist-in-residence at Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, New York and Alfred University in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Butler received her BFA from the University of Akron in 2017 and her MFA from Kent State University in 2021.
