Biography

Shawn Diamond has taught a range of classes at the University of Akron and other institutions in both Ohio and Arizona. He has nearly ten years of teaching experience, both in-person and online, and has frequently collaborated with and contributed to the organization Visual AIDS in New York City.

He holds a PhD from the University of Arizona in both Contemporary Art History and Theory, as well as Women’s and Gender Studies. His dissertation, “A Very Romantic Dam, Somewhere: Expanded Bodies in the Art of Felix Gonzalez-Torres” was a study of the conceptual artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, informed by queer theory, desire, and futurity. His continued research focuses on contemporary queer art as a response to HIV/AIDS.
