Computer Information Systems

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program offers high-level education and training for future IT professionals. Taught in cutting-edge computer labs, the CIS curriculum gives students the opportunity for specialization.

Program Highlights

• UA is home to a simulation lab that allows students to simulate cyber threats. It is modeled after the United States Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory.
• Students in networking courses are prepared to earn marketable industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Network Professional, and CompTIA.
• Students learn through experience in our co-op and internship programs that get our students hired.

Degree Options

CYBERSECURITY OPTION: Our cybersecurity option — the first of its kind among public universities in Ohio — blends instruction in computer architecture, programming, networking, cryptography, and other key areas to prepare students to apply security principles and practices to evaluate and mitigate risks and threats.

COMPUTER SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT OPTION: Our computer software development option prepares students to attain the knowledge and applied skills necessary to utilize current technology and tools to meet a range of technology needs in business, government, healthcare, education, and other industries.

Graduates work as cybersecurity/security analysts, IT systems/network administrator, web developers, and database administrators.
