Hands-On History

Do you want to touch history? Do you see yourself working in a museum or an archive? At an archaeological dig site or a national park? History majors interested in practicing hands-on history can choose from a number of supplemental degree paths at UA, including two undergraduate certificate programs and the MA in Applied History.

Museums and Archives

Students in the undergraduate and graduate programs for the museums and archives track work closely with faculty in the History Department and with professionals at UA's Smithsonian-affiliated National Museum of Psychology.

Career Paths

The career paths for students in applied and public history are varied and growing! The outlook for jobs in applied and public history, particularly archivists, curators, and museum workers, is for 10% annual growth, “much faster than average.”

Archaeology

History students interested in archaeology can add the Field Archaeology Certificate. They benefit from the expertise of UA's archaeologists, who work in fields ranging from nineteenth-century America to the Ancient Mediterranean.
