About the Degree
The College of Education's Principalship program prepares candidates for Ohio state principalship licensure through a master's degree and post-master's component. This rigorous program prepares candidates to meet national standards for educational administration. These standards, based on the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), are currently used by Ohio (and over 30 other states) to evaluate educational administrators. The principalship program requires that candidates be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and dispositions as outlined in the Ohio Principalship Standards and the Educational Leadership Licensure Consortium.
The program content is based on the ELCC and Ohio standards for principal preparation.

The program offers opportunities for students to meet other students from a variety of different types of school districts and schools. The courses are delivered on campus, online, and via distance learning technology. A faculty advisor is available to respond to student concerns and questions. It includes an internship as well as field experiences that are incorporated in the courses. It has a well-planned program of required courses that address current research and best practice.
The program also offers a combination of courses presented online, on campus, and/or via distance learning. The on campus courses are typically hybrid and include several sessions that are online. The classes are scheduled to accommodate students who are currently employed in schools. The internship is completed in the student’s current school. There are additional field experiences integrated in the required courses. Students take classes with other students who represent a variety of school districts and independent schools in the region. Consequently, they are exposed to diverse viewpoints and experiences. The content of the courses is continually revised and updated to address current research and best practice.
